Day 6: Next step, coat the hand-made test sheets, which I did not externally size and the assortment of test papers (with external sizing), like the tea bags. Here they are by the ready, secured to acrylic sheets with tape, ready to be coated. One last check of the darkroom for light-tight-ness. Check. Red safe light… check. Set up a double boiler to melt the Rockland VC emulsion…check. I heated the water as per directions to 130d, and then placed the bottle into the water bath. In just a few minutes, the emulsion was liquified. I poured a little out of the bottle into a working container, which I also kept in a water bath and shielded from light. (Sorry no pics….no light allowed.) I readied my hake brush and poured a small amount onto each page, and brushed away. All the readied test sheets are now drying, awaiting their second coat.  So much for an early night!
